A pitch hit the Philadelphia Phillies All Star second baseman, Chase Utley. He broke his hand and should be sitting for about one month. Abraham Nunez will most likely play second base for now. This is a major loss to the Phillies. He is hitting .336 with 41 doubles, 17 homers and 82 RBI. The Phillies have been playing pretty good baseball and might make the playoffs. Chase Utley said that he should be back before 1 month. If he does come back that soon that would be very good for the Phillies. I think the Phillies will make the playoffs. Look for them to be pretty good the rest of the season. Hopefully their star slugger comes back soon.

When the quest for Lord Stanley Cup started not too many people would have penciled in the Anaheim Mighty Ducks heading to the Western Conference finals but they are. The Ducks completed the sweep of the Colorado Avalanche by a score of 4-1. The Ducks won the same way they have all series with a stingy defense and just enough offense when needed.
Russian Rookie goalkeeper Ilya Bryzgalov has been brilliant in the playoffs and he’s at the top of his game right now. That is one of the keys to winning the Stanley cup is to have a hot goalkeeper in the playoffs. If the other team can’t score they can’t win.
Names like Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Joe Montana bring to mind the good old days when the San Francisco 49ers were a team you really didn’t want to play. Fast Forward to 2006 and you will find a team that has been in decline for a few years. Mike Nolan and the 49ers A are trying to rebuild the franchise once called one of the best. First round pick Alex Smith started seven games but the results weren’t good. He does have all the traits you want from your quarterback including confidence.
The Boston Bruins could receive a post-season boost as forward Patrice Bergeron has been cleared to play after missing most of the season with a concussion.
According to Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, Bergeron, 22, was examined by his doctors on Monday and told he could play.
After winning a NCAA National Baseball championship what more could Texas really do this year? How about repeating as champion. The Longhorn baseball team is ranked number one in the first poll that is out this season and is the favorite to win it all again this year.
Florida is second in the poll followed by Clemson, Rice and Cal State-Fullerton. Texas brings back 14 letterman from a team that was 56-16 including pitchers Kyle McCullough and Adrian Alaniz who were a combined 20-7. Texas also has four field starters back who hit .300 or better last year.
Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham was named Major League Soccer’s player of the week on Monday.
The English star, who signed with the Galaxy last year, scored his first MLS regular-season goal and set up another as the Galaxy defeated the expansion San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 last Friday.
