It is interesting to note the furore over the latest Speedo swimsuit, the LZR Racer bodysuit. It has been designed with the help of NASA and, get this, apparently "aids streamlining and reduces skin vibration and muscle oscillation". It has welded, rather than stitched, seams, and is partly made from neoprene, so may increase buoyancy.

Of course people are going to say that it has been responsible for 36 world records so far since its release 2 months ago, but there's another side to this story.

I received a call this evening from an athlete that wanted some help.

So, I did what I would normally do. I asked her what was happening and instigated a conversation.

After about 15 minutes we started to explore some of the practicalities - where was she, could we meet etc.

At that point she made an interesting comment. She said that she had called a few people and only felt that she'd clicked with me. This wasn't the first time I'd had a comment that suggested we were developing rapport already, and I was genuinely interested to know: What was different about me?

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Tuesday that the Canadian government has no plans to boycott the entire Beijing Olympic Games, nor does he expect other countries to do so.

"I don't anticipate any kind of a boycott of the Games themselves. … I don't see either in this country or internationally a push for that," he told a news conference.

"I would note that even the Dalai Lama has not called for such a boycott," Harper said.

The head of the International Olympic Committee says he was relieved that the San Francisco leg of the torch relay passed without major incident and is confident the Beijing Games will rebound from the relay "crisis."

The San Francisco relay "fortunately" avoided much of the turmoil and disruptions that marred the trek through London and Paris, said IOC president Jacques Rogge.

"It was, however, not the joyous party that we had wished it to be," said Rogge at the opening of a two-day executive board meeting in Beijing.

I stumbled upon this report today, released by the SportNation "think tank" (in November 2006), using research commissioned from Loughborough University, into the question of whether children born later in the sporting year are missing out on selection and development opportunities.

The answer to this appears to be a pretty resounding 'yes'. One sport that showed signs of ucking the trend was swimming, who have introduced more 'age on the date' competition. But sports like football, cricket, athletics, basebal and tennis, for example, showed clear signs of the Relative Age Effect.

What a fantastic result, forget the performance all that matters is the point Chelsea 1-1 Wigan Athletic almost guarantees Premier League football for the Latics for another season.

A man of the match performance from an absolutely superb Chris Kirkland, also cant believe that Avram Grant actually rested players for a game his side HAD to win, his loss.

Emile Heskey broke Chelsea hearts but he also broke beer glasses around the North West as not only Latics fans but also Man U fans threw their arms up in celebration at the big mans late, late equaliser that not only saves Wigans season but also gives United the Championship for a second consecutive year.
