For the second straight night, the Oakland Athletics stunned the Toronto Blue Jays by staging a ninth-inning rally off closer Jeremy Accardo. 

Accardo was shelled for four runs on one hit and one walk as the Athletics beat the Blue Jays 6-3 at the Rogers Centre on Wednesday night.

Placido Polanco of the Detroit Tigers committed a throwing error on Tuesday, ending his major-league records for errorless chances and games by a second baseman.   

Polanco was charged with a rare error on a relay to third base in the third inning of a 5-0 matinee loss to the host Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Becoming invisible on the green

There are those occasions in this gentleman's sport when it's better notto be seen or heard. You really must make yourself invisible!

I realize that every match has it's fierce rivalry and the competition can never be given an upper hand when there are a few dollars at stake. But consider the simple task of tending the flag. A true and loyal golf sportsman would never deliberately distract his opponent under this circumstance, no matter how easy it may seem. So suck it up... and do it right! Tending the flag is a common golf courtesy and should be performed cheerfully and without any alterial motive.

I stumbled upon this report today, released by the SportNation "think tank" (in November 2006), using research commissioned from Loughborough University, into the question of whether children born later in the sporting year are missing out on selection and development opportunities.

The answer to this appears to be a pretty resounding 'yes'. One sport that showed signs of ucking the trend was swimming, who have introduced more 'age on the date' competition. But sports like football, cricket, athletics, basebal and tennis, for example, showed clear signs of the Relative Age Effect.

While the Toronto Blue Jays were winning back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993, there's a good chance third baseman Ed Sprague was filled with performance-enhancing substances.

In a recent interview with Recordnet.com, Sprague admitted to taking steroids, using amphetamines commonly called "greenies" and playing with a corked bat to help inflate his statistics.

B.J. Ryan returned from injury to record his first save in more than a year on Sunday as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Texas Rangers 5-4 in 10 innings.

Alex Rios made a running catch to preserve Ryan's save, which looked like an iffy proposition after leadoff batter Marlon Byrd stretched what looked like a double into a triple.

It’s a sad day in hockey when you have to report a gambling issue with the league. Phoenix Coyotes associate coach Rich Tocchet was served with a criminal complaint Monday and was going to answer the charges of promoting gambling, money laundering and conspiracy. It’s alleged that 12 active NHL players placed wagers through him.

Besides Coach Rich Tocchet a state trooper help run the operation which placed over 1.7 million in bets over a 40 day period, with most of the bets being made on football and baseball. No matter how this turns out the NHL didn’t need this kind of story.
