Texas Rangers reliever Eddie Guardado landed on the disabled list Saturday with a sore left shoulder, retroactive to April 5.

Guardado, 37, has pitched just 17 times, including twice this season, since undergoing Tommy John (elbow ligament replacement) surgery in 2006.

“It is frustrating because I get where I want to be and then I have this setback,” Guardado said. “It is not fun.

“But I didn’t want to be stupid. I want to be smart about this.”

Guardado is 41-55 lifetime with a 4.30 earned-run average in 798 games, including 25 starts, over 16 MLB seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds and Rangers.

The two-time all-star has compiled 183 saves in 228 opportunities since making his major-league debut with Minnesota on June 13, 1993.

Texas is battling injuries in the bullpen, with right-handers Dustin Nippert (shin) and Jamey Wright (strained oblique muscle) nursing injuries.

With Guardado shelved, C.J. Wilson is the lone left-hander available.

“Over the course of the year, these things are going to happen,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “We’re not crying.

“We just have to solve the problem that is presented to us.”
