Mets’ pitching depth takes another hit
Posted on Sep 09, 2007 under Disability sport, Rugby Union, Sport Relief |Relief pitcher Matt Wise added to the New York Mets' pitching woes Tuesday when he was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right forearm.
Wise, 32, hasn't pitched since he allowed a game-ending home run to Florida's Robert Andino in the 10th inning of a 5-4 loss on April 1.
Wise had an MRI exam last week that showed no structural damage. He is eligible to return to the Mets lineup on April 17 against the Washington Nationals.
"To me, I was looking forward to him being a big part of our bullpen," New York manager Willie Randolph said of Wise.
Wise was 3-2 with a 4.19 earned-run average and one save in a career-high 56 appearances for Milwaukee last season before agreeing to a one-year, $1.2-million contract with the Mets in December.
Right hander Carlos Muniz was recalled from triple-A New Orleans to take Wise's roster spot.
Muniz pitched in two games for the Mets last season and had two saves for New Orleans this year.
He was available out of the bullpen for New York's home opener Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Mets already are minus pitchers Pedro Martinez (left hamstring strain), Orlando Hernandez (foot surgery) and Duaner Sanchez (shoulder surgery).
